PÜR Cosmetics did a presale of their brand new range of liquid lipsticks two weeks ago and completely sold out! They announced on their Instagram they will be restocking on May 3rd. I managed to snag one before they sold out, the shade FBF. I’ve been super excited for this release ever since seeing this shade on Madelynn of LaMadelynn in this Ipsy sponsored video.
The PÜR Cosmetics Velvet Matte Liquid Lipsticks retail for $20 USD and are limited edition. Regular ground shipping costs $5.95 USD and I used the code SAMPLE20 to receive $4 off. I ended up paying $23.33 USD. The package it shipped in was just a small box; it came in a self-sealing bubble wrap pouch and inside of a small pink drawstring bag.
The packaging is nothing spectacular, it doesn’t feel cheap, and there’s nothing about it that could inhibit its function. A plastic tube with pürminerals stamped in white near the base of the tube, with a silver lid that has a frosted lip print. The name of the shade is located on a white sticker on the bottom of the tube. It has a slanted triangular doe-foot applicator.
I was expecting this to be a terracotta rose color, but on me it pulls very dark and brown. It almost looks like a muted brick red. It looks darker in person than on camera. It’s very pigmented, glides on smooth in just a few swipes. Like with any matte liquid lipstick you should exfoliate your lips beforehand, especially as I find that this looks darker over any bits of your lips that are drier.
The Velvet Matte never fully dries down and it’s really more of a demi-matte finish. It also transfers on everything it touches and it leaves behind a stain. It feels very smooth and silky on the lips, it has the same feel as a silicone primer (which makes sense because dimethicone is the first ingredient listed). The feel of it on the lips is very similar to the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Gloss, they have a similar sense of slip. Interestingly enough, they smell almost exactly the same. Very sweet and fruity with a hint of Play-doh. These formulas are very similar. If you’ve tried the Matte Glosses and you weren’t a fan, I wouldn’t recommend the Velvet Mattes. They both have that thick, slippery, mousse-y texture. The Velvet Matte only lasts about 4-5 hours before I have to reapply it, they’re quite moisturizing while they’re still on the lips but once the product has worn off my lips do feel a teeny bit dry. Overall I like the feeling of these, I think they’re good but not anything new or innovative. I probably wouldn’t repurchase these full price, but on sale or with a discount I might pick up another shade or two.
